Privacy Policy

ScreenChat is a desktop app that lets you ask an AI assistant about what's on your screen, through text, screenshots, and screen recordings. This policy explains what data we collect, how it's used, and the choices you have.

We've tried to keep this readable. If anything is unclear, email support@screenchat.im.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password. Authentication is handled by Supabase.

Content you send to the assistant

Text messages you type to the assistant.
Screenshots, only when you explicitly capture one (via the camera button; screen capture is opt-in and never automatic). Captured images are sent to the AI provider to generate a response and stored with your chat history so you can refer back to them.
Screen recordings, only when you explicitly record one. Recordings are sent to the AI provider to generate a response and stored with your chat history. ScreenChat does not record your microphone or any other audio input.

Usage and account data

Your chat history (messages, titles, and screenshot thumbnails).
Your subscription tier (free or Pro).
Basic usage counters and rate-limit state used to operate and protect the service.

Payment information

Purchases are processed by our payments provider, Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. They collect and process your payment details, so we never receive or store your full card number. We retain only the subscription status needed to provide Pro features.

2. How we use your information

To provide the core service, generating AI responses to your text, screenshots, and recordings.
To save and sync your chat history across sessions.
To manage your account and subscription.
To maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce rate limits.
To respond to support requests you send us.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your conversations or screenshots for advertising.

3. AI processing & third-party services

To deliver ScreenChat, we share data with the service providers ("subprocessors") below. Each processes data only to provide their part of the service, under their own privacy terms.

About AI providers: content you send to the assistant (including screenshots and screen recordings) is transmitted to OpenRouter, which forwards it to the provider of whichever model you picked in the app — currently Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, or xAI. Changing the model in the model picker changes which company receives your content. Each provider's handling of that data is governed by their own API terms and privacy policy. We use these APIs to process requests, not to train models on your content.

4. Data retention

Your account information and chat history are retained until you delete them or close your account. You can delete individual chats from within the app at any time. If you'd like your account and all associated data deleted, contact support@screenchat.im and we'll remove it.

5. Security

We rely on established providers (Supabase, OpenRouter, Lemon Squeezy) with industry-standard security practices, and data is transmitted over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

6. Your choices

Screen capture is opt-in: nothing from your screen is captured unless you press the screenshot or record button.
You can delete chats, and request full account deletion, at any time.
You can stop using the service and cancel your subscription whenever you like.

7. Children

ScreenChat is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated where appropriate.
